Royal Midlothian Cavalry Officers Levee Dress Coatee Circa 1818/38.
The Coatee of dark blue wool,with scarlet collar, cuffs, and white turn-backs to the skirts; embellished on the front with continuous loops of silver gimp and three rows of half-domed silver plated buttons, 26 to the centre and 29 on either side,embossed with a Crown between the initials R,M, and C, the frontclosingwith hooksand eyes; the cuffs and collar trimmed with silver gimp and embellished with designs in silver Russia braid, the skirts also with trefoils in silver braid that terminate in Austrian knots; coat tail insignia of Order of the Thistle in silver wire and sequins and coloured silks; lined in white silk throughout (Conservation Netted).
